Dual redundant core memory systems
Electronic memory system consisting of series redundant drive switch circuits, triple redundant majority voted memory timing functions, and two data registers to provide functional dual redundancy is described. Signal flow through the circuits is illustrated and equence of events which occur within the memory system is explained
Option Pricing Formulas based on a non-Gaussian Stock Price Model
Options are financial instruments that depend on the underlying stock. We
explain their non-Gaussian fluctuations using the nonextensive thermodynamics
parameter . A generalized form of the Black-Scholes (B-S) partial
differential equation, and some closed-form solutions are obtained. The
standard B-S equation () which is used by economists to calculate option
prices requires multiple values of the stock volatility (known as the
volatility smile). Using which well models the empirical distribution
of returns, we get a good description of option prices using a single

Superstring partition functions in the doubled formalism
Computation of superstring partition function for the non-linear sigma model
on the product of a two-torus and its dual within the scope of the doubled
formalism is presented. We verify that it reproduces the partition functions of
the toroidally compactified type--IIA and type--IIB theories for appropriate

D-Brane Wess-Zumino Terms and U-Duality
We construct gauge-invariant and U-duality covariant expressions for
Wess-Zumino terms corresponding to general Dp-branes (for any p<D) in arbitrary
2<D<11 dimensions. A distinguishing feature of these Wess-Zumino terms is that
they contain twice as many scalars as the 10-D compactified dimensions, in line
with doubled geometry. We find that for D<10 the charges of the
higher-dimensional branes can all be expressed as products of the 0-brane
charges, which include the D0-brane and the NS-NS 0-brane charges. We give the
general expressions for these charges and show how they determine the
non-trivial conjugacy class to which some of the higher-dimensional D-branes

Intersection rules, dynamics and symmetries
We consider theories containing gravity, at most one dilaton and form field
strengths. We show that the existence of particular BPS solutions of
intersecting extremal closed branes select the theories, which upon dimensional
reduction to three dimensions possess a simple simply laced Lie group symmetry
G. Furthermore these theories can be fully reconstructed from the dynamics of
such branes and of their openings. Amongst such theories are the effective
actions of the bosonic sector of M-theory and of the bosonic string. The BPS
intersecting brane solutions form representations of a subgroup of the group of
Weyl reflections and outer automorphisms of the triple Kac-Moody extension G+++
of the G algebra, which cannot be embedded in the overextended Kac-Moody
subalgebra G++ characterising the cosmological Kasner solutions.Comment: Latex 30 pages, 3 figure
Time-like T-duality algebra
When compactifying M- or type II string-theories on tori of indefinite
space-time signature, their low energy theories involve sigma models on
E_{n(n)}/H_n, where H_n is a not necessarily compact subgroup of E_{n(n)} whose
complexification is identical to the complexification of the maximal compact
subgroup of E_{n(n)}. We discuss how to compute the group H_n. For finite
dimensional E_{n(n)}, a formula derived from the theory of real forms of E_n
algebra's gives the possible groups immediately. A few groups that have not
appeared in the literature are found. For n=9,10,11 we compute and describe the
relevant real forms of E_n and H_n. A given H_n can correspond to multiple
signatures for the compact torus. We compute the groups H_n for all
compactifications of M-, M*-, and M'-theories, and type II-, II*- and
II'-theories on tori of arbitrary signature, and collect them in tables that
outline the dualities between them. In an appendix we list cosets G/H, with G
split and H a subgroup of G, that are relevant to timelike toroidal

Theoretical and experimental study of AC loss in HTS single pancake coils
The electromagnetic properties of a pancake coil in AC regime as a function
of the number of turns is studied theoretically and experimentally.
Specifically, the AC loss, the coil critical current and the voltage signal are
discussed. The coils are made of Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10/Ag (BiSCCO) tape, although the
main qualitative results are also applicable to other kinds of superconducting
tapes, such as coated conductors. The AC loss and the voltage signal are
electrically measured using different pick up coils with the help of a
transformer. One of them avoids dealing with the huge coil inductance. Besides,
the critical current of the coils is experimentally determined by conventional
DC measurements. Furthermore, the critical current, the AC loss and the voltage
signal are simulated, showing a good agreement with the experiments. For all
simulations, the field dependent critical current density inferred from DC

From p-branes to Cosmology
We study the relationship between static p-brane solitons and cosmological
solutions of string theory or M-theory. We discuss two different ways in which
extremal p-branes can be generalised to non-extremal ones, and show how wide
classes of recently discussed cosmological models can be mapped into
non-extremal p-brane solutions of one of these two kinds. We also extend
previous discussions of cosmological solutions to include some that make use of
cosmological-type terms in the effective action that can arise from the
generalised dimensional reduction of string theory or M-theory.Comment: Latex, 24 pages, no figur
Stiffness and energy losses in cylindrically symmetric superconductor levitating systems
Stiffness and hysteretic energy losses are calculated for a magnetically
levitating system composed of a type-II superconductor and a permanent magnet
when a small vibration is produced in the system. We consider a cylindrically
symmetric configuration with only vertical movements and calculate the current
profiles under the assumption of the critical state model. The calculations,
based on magnetic energy minimization, take into account the demagnetization
fields inside the superconductor and the actual shape of the applied field. The
dependence of stiffness and hysteretic energy losses upon the different
important parameters of the system such as the superconductor aspect ratio, the
relative size of the superconductor-permanent magnet, and the critical current
of the superconductor are all systematically studied. Finally, in view of the
results, we provide some trends on how a system such as the one studied here
could be designed in order to optimize both the stiffness and the hysteretic

Generalized Geometry and M theory
We reformulate the Hamiltonian form of bosonic eleven dimensional
supergravity in terms of an object that unifies the three-form and the metric.
For the case of four spatial dimensions, the duality group is manifest and the
metric and C-field are on an equal footing even though no dimensional reduction
is required for our results to hold. One may also describe our results using
the generalized geometry that emerges from membrane duality. The relationship
between the twisted Courant algebra and the gauge symmetries of eleven
